For the experimental determination of the specific heat capacity of different metals. Cylindrical metal block, mass 1 kg. Adjusted to an accuracy of ± 2%. Each block is drilled with two holes, a large central hole, 12.5mm diameter, for a special immersion heater and a smaller hole, 7.5mm diameter, for a thermometer of Copper, Brass, Aluminium & Iron.

A fully sheathed miniature 12V 50W (nominal) heater which has been specially developed for use with the block calorimeters. The element is housed in a 150mm stainless steel tube. The Electrical is via 180mm flying leads with heat resisting insulation.

Special design made from thick copper sheet 175 x 100mm having filling tube with ebonite collar, steam vent and vertical tube terminating in chute passing through the side of vessel.
A brass tube sliding fits in the central tube to carry thermometer. Lower end cut an angle to seal the chute.

INGEN-HAUSZ'S APPARATUS |

Comprising six equal rods of copper, iron, lead, brass, Zinc and aluminium, each 130 x 3mm diameter, mounted in corks with their lower ends in a tank 210 x 75 x 75mm. The tank is supported on four legs at a height of approximately 170mm above the bench.
In use, the rods are lightly coated with paraffin wax and the rates of melting are compared.
